Objective of surveying

The main objective of the survey is to make a map of an area, which accurately represents all the important points and lines on the level plane of the area and by looking at the map one can get the true and pure information of the area i.e. Horizontal Projection is a region. This map is conveniently made much smaller than the actual area. Only horizontal measurements are shown on the map, contour lines, Hachures, or any other method is used to represent the height (height / depth).

The survey also serves the following purpose

(i) The horizontal distance of the points and its position on the ground plane is determined.

(ii) The elevation position and height of the points are ascertained.

(iii) A map can be drawn on the basis of field measurements and longitudinal, transverse passages, etc. can be drawn.

(iv) For construction of roads, railways, cities, etc., the quantity of soil harvesting / filling is known.

(v) Layout of buildings and civil works can be targeted.

(vi) Maps showing the boundaries of cities, districts, regions, country can be made.
